About this policy

BUTENKO ART STUDIO is an independent design and software studio operated from British Columbia, Canada. This policy explains what personal information we collect through butenkoart.ca (also available at butenkoart.com), why we collect it, and the choices you have. When you use this website or send us a message through the contact form, you confirm that you have read and understood this policy.

We keep things deliberately small. We collect only what we need to run the site and to reply to you, and we do not sell or rent personal information to anyone.

What we collect

  • Contact form. When you write to us we receive the name, email address and message you submit. We store this in our database and send a copy to our studio inbox so we can read and respond to your enquiry.
  • Server logs. Like most websites, our server automatically records standard technical information for each request: your IP address, your browser or user-agent string, and the date and time of access. These logs help us keep the site secure and running.

We set no cookies. For analytics we self-host Umami, a privacy-friendly, cookieless tool that runs on our own server. It records anonymous, aggregate usage only, such as which pages are viewed, the referring source, an approximate country derived from your IP address (the full address is not stored), and your browser and device type. We use no third-party analytics, no advertising networks, and no cross-site tracking or profiling of any kind.

Why we use it and our legal bases

We use the information you send through the contact form solely to read your message and reply to you. We use server logs to operate, secure and troubleshoot the website and to prevent abuse.

For visitors in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, our lawful bases under the GDPR and UK GDPR are: your consent for processing the details you submit through the contact form, and our legitimate interests in keeping the website secure and operational for the server logs.

Cookies and analytics

This site sets no cookies and uses no web beacons, advertising networks or cross-site tracking. Our self-hosted Umami analytics collects only anonymous, aggregate data (page views, referrer, approximate country, browser and device type). It does not build profiles about you or follow you across other sites, and this data is never sold or shared.

How long we keep it

We keep contact messages only as long as we need them to handle your enquiry and to maintain reasonable records of our correspondence, after which they are deleted. Server logs are retained for a limited period and then removed in the normal course of operation. Encrypted backups of our database are kept for 30 days and then deleted automatically, so a deleted message disappears from them within that window.

Who we share it with

We share personal information only in limited circumstances:

  • Service providers. Contabo hosts our server; our email provider delivers the copy of your message to our inbox and our reply to you; Cloudflare stores our encrypted backups, which it cannot read. Providers may only use the information to provide their service to us.
  • Legal requirements. We may disclose information where we are required to do so by law or to protect our rights.

We do not sell or rent personal information.

International transfers

The site runs on a private virtual server in the United States, and our encrypted backups are stored with Cloudflare, so your information is stored and processed outside Canada. Wherever your data is handled, we apply the protections described in this policy.

Your rights

Under Canada's PIPEDA and British Columbia's PIPA, and under the GDPR and UK GDPR for visitors in the EEA and UK, you have the right to:

  • access the personal information we hold about you;
  • have it corrected if it is inaccurate;
  • have it deleted;
  • restrict or object to its processing;
  • request data portability; and
  • withdraw your consent at any time.

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@butenkoart.ca. We aim to respond within 30 days. We email people only in response to their own enquiry. In line with Canada's anti-spam law (CASL), we will obtain your consent before sending any marketing or newsletter messages, and every such message will include an unsubscribe option.

If you have a concern, you may also complain to a regulator: in Canada, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) or the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia (OIPC BC); in the EEA or UK, your local data protection supervisory authority.

Children

This site is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the date below and, where appropriate, note material changes on this page.
